… í fyrsta lagi þá finnst fólki mjög óþarft að vera að fara í skó þegar það er að skreppa út í sjoppu, búð, pósthúsið, vínbúðina o.þ.h. Skiptir ekki máli þó það sé rigning. Fólk er samt berfætt, stelpur og strákar! Veit ekki hvort það sé NZ thing eða bara hérna í Dunedin.

… það er soldið fyndið að koma hingað beint frá NY, Cleveland, Boston og San Francisco stórborgum í Bandaríkjunum, það er soldið eins og að fara frá Íslandi til Færeyja þó ég hafi ekki komið til Færeyja, þá er það hvað allt er krúttilegt hérna og helst hreimurinn og orðin sem þau nota.

… hérna þegar maður er á gangstéttinni er ég alltaf að reyna að víkja til hægri eins og maður gerir heima en ég er alltaf næstum því búin að klessa á greyið fólkið því hérna víkja allir til vinstri. Þetta er eitthvað innbyggt í mann út af bílaumferðinni en hérna keyra þau vinstra megin. Rúllustigarnir eru líka “öfugir”.. maður þarf að fara vinstra megin upp/niður stiga. Þetta tekur nokkra daga að venjast.

… ég ætlaði að gera mojito en það var ekki hægt að kaupa lime því það var ekki sú árstíð. Núna er það reyndar komið í búðir en kílóverðið var 3000 kr!

… hérna eru allir komnir til að hafa gaman og fólk kann svo sannarlega að skemmta sér, það er greinilegt að það á ekkert að vera að taka lífinu of alvarlega. Ég þurfti að hitta konu frá deildinni minni til að samþykkja stundatöfluna mína og hún sagði mér að vera ekkert að taka meira en ég ætti að taka, og helst taka einfaldari kúrsa svo ég gæti bara notið þess að vera hérna og skoðað það sem NZ hefur upp á að bjóða, þannig að ég verð mögulega bara í skólanum 3 daga í viku! þri, mið og fim!

…Já, Nýsjálendingar kunna að skemmta sér, það er mjög smitandi, því hérna er fólk alls staðar að úr heiminum og það er þvílíkt góður mórall og allir sem ég hef kynnst eru mega nice!

… já og þegar það er vetur heima þá er sumar hér, og þegar það er nótt heima er kominn dagur hér.

Það er búið að vera algjörlega frábært að fá þetta tækifæri til að ferðast svona yfir heiminn. Það var ótrúlega gaman í Bandaríkjunum. Fyrst fór ég til New York að heimsækja Önnu Rósu, Shanga og Emblu. Það var rosa gott að koma aftur til New York. Maður er svo iðandi af lífi þar. Ég þurfti alveg klárlega að komast burtu frá Íslandi. Ég finn það alveg. Það var líka rosa gott að vera hjá þeim, og frábært að þau séu loksins komin á austurströndina eftir að vera búin að búa í Seattle í svona mörg ár. 

Ég og Embla litla frænkan mín náðum samt bara einum degi saman þar sem hún var í Seattle í heimsókn akkurat þegar ég var þarna en við gerðum sem mest úr þessum degi og áttum saman frábærar frænkustundir. Fórum á kaffihús, röltum um borgina, fórum í fótsnyrtingu með Önnu Rósu og svo um kvöldið fórum við bara tvær saman út að borða á stað sem heitir Vapiano sem er ítalskur soldið sniðugur staður. Maturinn er mjög ferskur og eldaður fyrir framan mann, samt er svona afslappaður kaffiteríu-fílingur. Maður sest á borð með ókunnugum og bíður í röð eftir að panta matinn og svona. Við settumst með hóp af fólki sem voru sennilega frá mið-austurlöndum en voðalega drukkin öll sömul. Það var mjög gaman að fylgjast með þessu fólki og skemmtum við Embla okkur konunglega við að giska hvernig þau þekktust og hvað þau væru eiginlega að gera saman þarna, við komumst á endanum að því að það var einn gamall karl og ung kærastan hans, svo var einn ungur hommi sem var frændi kærustunnar og systir hans var þarna líka og kærastinn hennar. Vildi að ég ætti mynd af þessum hóp en svo er ekki. 

Svo skrapp ég yfir til Connecticut að hitta Nönnu frænku og fjölskyldu. Hér erum ég og Indía í kennaraleik:

Svo tók ég lest til Connecticut að heimsækja Mary frænku mína. Við fórum í æðislega göngu í nokkra klukkutíma inn í skógi og upp á hæð með alveg magnað útsýni. Ég var reyndar ekki með myndavélina mína Þannig að ég á bara simamyndir. 

Svo fór ég í rútu til Gretu í Boston, en ég er búin að blogga hérna áður um hvað var gaman í Boston Fórum í sædýrasafn og horfðum á superbowl og ég og Greta skelltum okkur grand út að borða. Það var æðislegt! 

Þessi færsla er nú orðin aðeins lengri en ég ætlaði mér þannig að ég segi smá frá Ohio og San Francisco næst… svo að sjálfsögðu Nýja Sjálandi..

Greta, ég og mörgæsirnar!

Aðalbyggingin í Boston þar sem George Washington hélt fyrsta forsetaávarpið á svölunum.Á sýnum tíma þótti þessi bygging mjög stór sem er pínku fyndið því núna er hún umkringd háhýsum.

Ég á ennþá eftir að gera kannski eitt lítið blogg með fleiri myndum frá Connecticut og New York..

Núna er ég samt komin til Ohio… er ekkert búin að taka neinar myndir hérna, bara búin að vera að chilla með fjölskyldumeðlimum og svona… er samt að spá í að kíkja út og taka myndir. Það er alveg challenge að taka flottar myndir því þetta er svo rough hérna en kannski geri ég bara project sem heitir Le Ghetto! haha myndir þurfa ekki alltaf að vera “fallegar” til að verða áhugaverðar. Það lærði ég í ljósmynduninni því kennarinn minn elskaði svona hráar myndir af hversdagslífi hjá helst minnihlutahópum. En meira um það seinna… ég var að koma heim úr lunch með frænkum mínum og frænda, ætla að halda áfram að njóta lífsins!

Í dag er Super-Bowl Sunday og New England Patriots er að keppa sem er m.a. lið Boston. Við erum að fara í eitthvað partý og Greta sem er aðeins of myndarleg er að baka einhverja sjúka köku. Núna er hún að föndra krem í alls konar litum meðan við horfum á Sex and the city. 

Við fórum í gær í geggjaðan Brunch á morgunmatsstað sem er inni í bókabúð. Sjúklega kúl! Fengum okkur alls konar gúmmulaði, meðal annars fluffy amerískar pönnukökur með jarðaberjum og súkkulaði innan í. 

Svo fórum við á rosa fancy og fínan stað sem heitir Atlantic Fish og út í drykki eftir það. Rosa gaman saman! Alveg þess virði að spreða smá í vinkonukvöld því það er svo langt síðan við hittumst og langt þangað við hittumst aftur! 

Fordrykkurinn var í anda sex and the city, mango og ferskju cosmopolitan!:

Deildum aðalréttunum: Koli (Lemon sole) og rækju og hörpuskels risotto… Þessu var sturtað niður með ísköldu Chablis hvítvíni. Talk about fancy!

On Saturday, I went to see an acting class that Shanga is teaching at NYU, it was really fun to see it. The kids were talented and the project that they were doing is great. Afterwards we went to lunch. Had PamThai for the second time since I got here:

After lunch, we went next door to a store called Kisan concept store which is Icelandic. I tried on awesome shoes from Kron which is an Icelandic brand. They were so nice! But I didn’t buy them. I also saw this cool bag: I don’t have to buy anything, I can just take pictures of them and keep the memories stored like that! It’s great. 

Then I went to Brooklyn to dinner with Katrin, she cooked this lovely chicken meal. We chatted, drank, danced, with some other kids at her apartment then headed to a party with her parson’s friends. Here is a picture from the party taken with a polaroid

On Sunday, Anna Rosa and Shanga had brunch and Nanna, my cousin came over from connecticut with her daughters Indía and Una. It was so nice. Then afterwards I went with them to New Canaan for the day and had dinner with them. Took the train later that night back to New York.

It feels good being back in the U.S. my second home, before I go to New Zealand.

P.s. I forgot that in America if you watch certain amount of videos on youtube you need to watch an advertisement. Isn’t that interesting? 

Anyways I am out to enjoy my day and hang-out with some girls I met this summer on the photography course.

I had a really good flight but I almost didn’t make it to the airport, there was so much snow!!! But I am here safe and sound. Ready to get out and enjoy my day… Until next… ADIOS AMIGOS!

First I want to say this:

I have changed so much as a person over the last few years. The thing that has shaped me the most is losing a dear loved one. This has def. been my biggest fear of all, to lose someone I love, my parent or my sibling. I cannot and will not start to describe this any further but this is on reason why I now think and act like I do. (I am still not fully healed or anything but I am working on enjoying my life.) There are times I am sad but I am so happy for all the memories.

I have a few motto’s now and things that I used to worry about in the past are completely gone out the window and I just think this life is to live it how YOU want to live it. I personally think life should be fun and interesting.

Life is too short not to eat the goodies!

Ok now let’s start reviewing this AWESOME year! (Awesome to say the least!)

January - I went on a very important trip in January. A trip that would make my relationship complete. For my boyfriend to meet my other family. Meet some very special people in my life and for them to get to know the man in my life. Of course I had to worry about nothing at all. It’s really hard not to like him. Needless to say, everyone loved him, they now like him more than they like me! haha But I am kind of getting used to that by now. He is just a very likable person and I am not so much at least I am not for everyone. Haha. But it was very important for me that he could meet them to see where 50% of my genetics come from, I think he got to know me even better by this, by seeing my relatives and see how loud, hyper and talkative they are, he could actually understand why I am like I am. I can’t help it, even though I didn’t meet my family in the U.S. until I was 14, I fit in like I have been raised there all my life. Ok, not completely, I def. have my Icelandic moments, like when nobody understands my sense of humor when it doesn’t translate! Things like that!

February – February can be a really awful month. Thank god it’s so short. It’s cold, dark and includes school. Me and Kari had a welcome home dinner in February when we came home:

MARCH – OOOOOH YEAH BOY! This is one of the best months because it’s my birthday! I am now 24 years old which is a really good age! I’m def. living it up!

I had a pizza party for my friends down town at ELDSMIÐJAN and after that we came to my apartment to have cake and coffee. What a nice birthday.

My boyfriend had to work on my actual birthday, although dating a chef has it’s benefits, I don’t recommend it for needy girls since they barely have time for anything but work. I fell in love with Iceland again. Having no car and walking everywhere helped plus having my camera to make me see the beauty in everything really helped me realize again how awesome Iceland is. I look very Icelandic in this picture (and I like it) :

APRIL – I went to LONDON to see my girls, Inga and Nanna! Needed a quick getaway from school and came across a great offer online, it was almost free I’m telling you. This year has most certainly been a year of travel!

The spring in London was so beautiful. I was extremely lucky with the weather. It had been cold in Iceland and I came to a really nice sunny weather in London. Much needed sunshine! Basically all I did was to hang out in some of the great parks in London:

MAY – Finals always takes toll on me. I cannot stand University especially not during finals, although I always do good, that’s not the problem, it’s jut the fact that I have to sit on my ass and study. It’s just not my thing, I am too hyper for that, I feel like I’m locked up in a cage during finals….

In May my brother graduated and I was SO proud of him! I took his graduation pictures, here is one:

I went on a GREAT trip with my mom and Þorgeir, my lil bro. We had planned this trip and it was such a needed vacation for 3 of us. First up we had a flight from Iceland to New York, from NY to Orlando, FLORIDA.

Of course we went to Disney, Universal and all those parks. Basically had a great time in Florida.

June – We went to our first cruise ever. It was the eastern caribbean cruise. Very sweet.

We also went to South Carolina, North Carolina to visit family and friends, went to Washington D.C, New York and Connecticut. This was def. the most I have traveled during one summer.

On June 16th my brother turned 20 years old which is the drinking age in Iceland. He got spoiled by my aunt who got him cake. So nice..

In New York I went to a SADE concert, she is one of my favourite singers. That was just awesome!

July – Spent in New York City in a lovely apartment. Kouryn came to visit. We celebrated 4th of July. I signed up for a Photography course. It was really hot. That is what stood up the most. Here are some pics:

I also went to New Jersey to meet up with Terra and Terri, my cousin and aunt.Good times!

Then Kari came to visit me in New York at the end of the month.

August – Went back to Iceland. It was nice to come home. Ragna, Kari’s sister and her kids came to visit since they now live in Sweden. It was nice to see them again.

September – Started practicing contemporary dance at a dance school. It was 6 days a week. Pretty intense.

The fall here was really pretty. I was walking and taking the bus everywhere so I enjoyed it extremely much not having a car in this beautiful weather.

October – Went on a research trip to North of Iceland (Skagaströnd and Blönduós). It was interesting. Here is one picture I took there:

I went on another date with Kari. He was treating me to dinner because I have never been this busy in school and study hard. Plus with dance, my schedule was so busy that we didn’t have much time together this fall. That date was great to our other favourite restaurant, Hótel Holt:

November – We moved to another apartment downtown Reykjavík. Neighbourhood 101! Dreams coming true again! Always wanted to live here. We were very lucky to get this apartment. It’s so nice!

Then Kari’s birthday was November 10th. We moved in here November 11th. It was overall a nice month. Just didn’t take many pictures.

December – The best time of the year (except finals). I did really good on all my finals and was happy with that. I have serious love for Christmas time and New Years eve.
